dirty day

another dirty day but,
for once, no more rain. shoes
placed neatly by the door, and
clothes lay still on the floor.
a winding sunlight shadow
wraps your ankle, arches toes.

a pint glass, half filled with dust
collecting water, condensation
wets its appetite, casting flickers
of heaven on the wall.
your salty skin reminds me of oceans,
waves are sighs.

smile lines were drawn ‘round your
eyes the first time i licked your
knee, you bit the tip of your tongue
and called me a bastard while
you mussed my hair and all
the thoughts within.

now we rest in the moment held
off by the fire alarm, the low battery
light flickers achtung at your still
sleeping visage, hiding the knowledge
of another dirty day but,
for once, no more rain.
