So much of me remains
in Spain, strolling
the Rambla de Catalunya, mind reeling

from Gaudi's La Pedrera
—soaring brick arches
in the attic

supporting the world, extra-
terrestrial shapes
on the roof testifying
to Barcelona.

My California house has nothing
of Gaudi's eye-catching flourishes,
but inside me
he now lives, subverting

straight lines, erecting byzantine
