For a Song

“Did you hear him? 'Don't do anything I wouldn't do!' I’d take him up on his dare if I could, sitting here without a dime in my pocket or a friend of my own. I would take the dare, mister!

“I'd buy me a white horse and ride down 34th Street shouting, 'Make way, make way!' He wouldn't dream of doing that!

“His friends would leave him flat, you know. Him with his fancy shoes and hat. I would take them all to Mars where they give rides for a song. Dress them in the finest.

“Yes, that's what I'd do. He couldn't do that. He doesn't know the way.

“First, I'd need a drink.

“Don't do anything I wouldn't do!”
