the last remaining condiments

in another life
i drive a mid-size sedan
back to my spacious
and sensibly decorated
studio apartment.
i cook linguini
while i wait for you
to get off work.
after dinner,
we will sip vintage wines
and watch casablanca
on my big-screen tv.

but the heartbreaking reality is
that i'm stuck here, staring
at the last remaining condiments
and having strange ideas
about the rotten celery
in my crisper.
