Standing Here

Let me know if I’m still standing here in the morning,
regardless of all the others who have left.
And let me know, if my eyes are still fixed upon the objects you described.
Let me know these things if you want to continue being my friend.
And if you want to continue placing in my arms
the illuminated signs that I was never quite able to see rendered whole.
Let me know who else is standing here in the morning.
And may have turned his back on the heaving breath in the night that followed.
Let me know so I don’t have to worry about where else I should have been
when all else failed (but the grief that I captured)
in a world left empty for its straw.
