First Ultrasound
The fridge magnet’s off
and I’m lifted again. Gripped tight
as a wooden banister
rubbed smooth in both directions:
their eyes run
their thoughts run
up and down,
hope and worry, worry
and anticipation.
The space for my name
has the run of the house.
Pitter patter
of dog whistle feet,
the whisper that instigates
this hum. I’m loud as air
browsing flute holes.
